21st Century Deco

3D Recycle and Found

My husband returned from an information security trade show and brought back some chopped up hard drives from a company who provides a security service to destroy the boards inside PCs and laptops. This set my mind a whirr with ideas of how I could use the intrinsically beautiful components found in electronic devices. With this in mind I took some photographs of my illustrator friend Louise Prentice from which I made a wax sculpture of her head and shoulders. I then had a mould made of the sculpture and fellow artist and friend Neil Wood cast her head in resin and computer parts. From there I fashioned a headpiece from a variety of electronic boards and other components I had rescued from laptops and PCs to create the Artwork 21st Century Deco, the first of a series of heads.
